1 DAY IN FLORENCE

HONEYMOON PART 3

I’ve told you about our travels in London and Rome, but today I’m covering our day trip to FLORENCE. I studied abroad here in the summer of 2010, and I was so excited to be returning!

We hopped on a morning train from Rome to Florence, and when we arrived, we made our way to the Duomo where we climbed the 463 steps to the top for a killer view.

As if that wasn’t enough of a workout, Zack was ready to tackle the Bell Tower too (another 414 steps). I had done both during my time abroad, but the views from the top are irresistible. Plus, this meant I could have extra pasta and/or gelato later, right?

After the climbs, we wandered around Florence (yes, we were somehow still able to move our legs) and checked out the San Lorenzo Market, my old apartment and school (Lorenzo de Medici), the Palazzo Vecchio, and even one of my favorite gelaterias from my time studying abroad (Cono Gelato).

We walked across the Ponte Vecchio and made our way up to the Piazzale Michelangelo to watch the sunset (my absolute favorite view of the city).

This was by far the coldest day of our trip (and windiest), so by the time the sun started to set, we were ready to find a warm and cozy place to relax for dinner. Not to mention, we were exhausted from all the walking and climbing.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Getting to go back to Florence and show Zack around was another one of my favorite moments of the trip. I fell in love with the city all over again and was flooded with so many memories from my summer spent there. I may be a little biased, but if you have the chance to visit Florence, GO!
