Now that we’re living in the Texas, we decided we should try and explore some of the state. (News flash: Texas is ENORMOUS so this is no easy feat.)
We’ve done a good bit of exploring in Dallas and checked out Fort Worth a little (the Stockyards are a must if you visit), but that’s about it, so we decided to take a little road trip to San Antonio! I really didn’t know much other than the Alamo, but there’s actually so much to do! Here’s how we spent our weekend:
SATURDAY MORNING:
• 9:30am: Fuel up with some caffeine from Magnolias + hit the road
• 2:30pm: Check into our hotel.
• 3:30pm: Riverwalk Cruise
• 4:30pm: Visit the Alamo
• 5:30pm: Dinner at Casa Rio on the Riverwalk
• 7:00pm: Walk along the Riverwalk (BONUS: Check out San Fernando de Bexar Cathedral)
• 10:00pm: Late night drinks at The Esquire Tavern (the oldest bar in San Antonio)
• 11:30pm: Get caught in a crazy wind and rain storm while walking back to the hotel. (Ok – so I cannot guarantee this will be a part of your experience but it gave us a good laugh. Pics below.)
A few things to note:
• The drive will take at least 4 hours from Dallas. We hit some rain + made a pit stop at Buccees. Also fun fact – depending on which route you take you might end up on the fastest road in the US, Highway 130 with a posted speed limit of 85 miles per hour!
• We stayed at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk and it was extremely convenient and walkable to the Riverwalk – which is where we planned to spend most of our time for this trip.
• For the Riverwalk Cruise – you can book your tickets in advance, but we didn’t and the line wasn’t too bad at all. I imagine this all depends on when you’re visiting though! Either way – I definitely recommend this little boat tour. Great way to see the riverwalk area and learn some fun facts about the city.

SUNDAY MORNING:
• 8:30am: Coffee at Revolución
• 9:00am: Spend some time exploring the San Antonio Mission Trail (We checked out Mission San Jose and Mission Concepción.)
• 11:00am: Brunch at Ambler Texas Kitchen (the food was delicious and it’s right on the Riverwalk but I took ZERO photos here…oops)
• 12:30pm: Head back to Dallas
• 2:00pm: Coffee Break in Austin at Alfred (because this was one of our favorite coffeeshops in Los Angeles and the fact that there is ONE location in Texas…we had to go!)
• 5:00pm: Back Home
About the missions:
• San Antonio is home to five missions, the most popular being the Alamo. There are four others including: Mission Concepción, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada.
• You can visit the missions via car (quickest and most convenient) or there is a walking/bike trail that connects them all.

It was a super quick trip, but we had a lot of fun. I love how walkable it felt, especially staying by the Riverwalk area. Now – onto exploring more of the big ole’ state of Texas. We’ve recently visited Austin (and not just for coffee), BUT if you have any other favorite Texas destinations, share them in the comments!
